New Mieko Mintz: A Reflection of Pantone Colors for 2019

Learning from Sacai, Spring 2019

Sacai Sandals and Jeans Spring 2019

Sacai’s new spring collection is an amalgam of deconstructed staple pieces that reference numerous styles. Chitose Abe is a master of redefining classic shapes into a hybridization of elements that don’t seem to belong together within one garment. The new collection challenges our perception of what has come before and what can come next. Thanks to Sacai, we are able to experience unimaginable possibilities through fashion, giving us priceless amounts of inspiration for 2019 and beyond.

Sacai Shirt and Skirt Spring 2019

Chitose’s perpetual goal is to create something that doesn’t yet exist. While being worn, the garments are like a mirage. They appear to be one thing but suddenly reveal themselves as another, sometimes resisting obvious classification altogether. This collection is a host of garments that magically transform from left to right: jackets with drastically different sleeves, layers of plaids and stripes with abstract floral patterns on top of pleats of varying sizes, along with stark whites, flowing black ribbons, lace trims, and chunky hardware. The collection is a dissection of classic prep, military, and streetwear shapes. The asymmetrically cascading fabrics unite with unexpected pattern-mixing and layerings connected by zippers, to produce vivid color-blocking and mystery regarding where one garment ends and another begins.

Sacai Jean Spring 2019

As usual, Sacai has us rethinking the usual algorithm for getting dressed. We have received some new pieces from the spring collection, and we can’t wait to share the excitement and unconventional beauty.

Péro Resort Reveals the Color of the Year

Trends typically take a backseat to textiles, as Péro is designed with a focus primarily on craft. Each garment is hand-loomed and dyed by artisans. Elaborate details are created by more than half a dozen artists working together on a single piece. Although some may say this is limiting, it allows Péro to establish works of art that are essentially timeless. Aneeth Arora’s creative genius isn’t stifled either. This is evident as Péro Resort has almost perfectly coincided with the release of Pantone’s color of the year for 2019.

lighthearted activity beneath the sea

Opening India Fashion Week this season was Aneeth Arora’s Spring 2019 collection for her brand Péro. Arora aptly titled this collection “Finding Péro,” a humorous adaptation from the Walt Disney classic. The show was characteristically theatrical as models walked poolside in embroidered, beaded, and flowing textiles while wearing hats in the shape of coral and fish by paper sculptor, Carlos Urgese. As Aneeth explained through the captions of videos released on facebook, inspiration from marine life played a large role in the creation of her collection for Spring/Summer 2019.

As a color, Pantone stated that Living Coral, “welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity,” so it is only proper that we draw a connection to Péro. From their runway display to their aesthetic, their attitude is overwhelmingly positive, and perfect for those who are in search of playful expression.

in search of authentic connections

Pantone also chose coral as color of the year because people are constantly seeking, “authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy.” As a brand Péro has long stood for the creation of clothing where the fit and fads are secondary to craft and emotional connection. This relationship however, isn’t limited to the wearer and the garment. When an item has a history that is richly coated in care at the hands of thoughtful creators, you can’t help but feel an immediate attraction that flows deeper than surface aesthetic. Aneeth wishes for people to feel connected through her collections wherever they are worn, whether it is to the people who heartily worked on her designs, or simply to one another.

coral details and color blocking

Sociable and spirited, it is fitting that Péro Resort contrasts muted pastels and the natural colors of delicate linens with bright yellows and pinks. Simultaneously, whimsical details are paired alongside bold color-blocking. Aneeth’s designs are unwaveringly feminine and playful, as she experiments with asymmetrical hemlines and continues to interpret handmade crafts as luxury.

A number of items from this collection include coral tones as well, whether they act as accents or paint the pieces entirely. As a whole, the color warmly conveys comfort and positivity when used simply, and becomes effervescent and enthusiastic in patterns and textures.

Album di Famiglia: Celebrating Joy in Life’s Simplest Moments

Known for their refined shapes, luxuriously soft fabrics, and respect for the local economy and environment, Album di Famiglia is a gem of Italian fashion labels. Designer Monica Rusconi founded the brand in 2000, bringing her siblings Patrizia and Giovanni onto the project eleven years later. Season after season, each garment is produced with unparalleled quality: designed, cut, and sewn in a small workshop in the town of Lomazzo, Italy.

With a lifestyle that celebrates joy in life’s simplest moments, the Album philosophy extends beyond itself: instilling their creations with classic style and prioritizing comfort with each cut and thread. This method allows a welcomed ease in dressing; clothes that make life less complicated. At times the brand’s minimalist aesthetic seems radically avant-garde, with their unique combinations of limited color palette, subtle textures, and compelling shapes.

From the perfectly tailored linen trouser, to the relaxed top, and the iconic Thai pant, Album di Famiglia has built a collection of wonderfully androgynous staples to treasure for a lifetime. Wrap yourself in the simply lush fabrics of cotton, wool, linen and silk and take joy in the smallest pleasures of life, the Album Di Famiglia way. We suggest styling with a pair of Common Projects sneakers or Officine Creative boots, top it off with a Reinhard Plank woven hat.

Introducing: Injiri

The word “Injiri” has a history that describes the brand itself. Meaning “real India,” it is deeply rooted in the culture and was once the highest quality of cloth one could own. It was worn and treasured by Kalabari chiefs for ceremonial occasions (like the birth of a child). Traditionally, it is a design made up of vertical and horizontal lines making a plaid or check pattern and treasured for the skill that goes into producing such a beautiful piece.

Today, each Injiri product takes months to produce—from the original design process to making and touching the hands of countless artisans. The company’s textiles are incorporated into modern life around the world as bedspreads, throws, and pillows that integrate with the creams, taupes, blacks, indigo, and pops of red that are found in many of our living spaces today. They are both ornate and understated—casual and interesting. Injiri is sold online and in-store at Wild Life

Gilda Midani Resort: Polka Dots

Gilda Midani Resort: Polka Dots

Gilda Midani has a freeing aesthetic – comfort becomes disguised as elegance that flows through airy lines and organic silhouettes. Brush strokes and textural elements lend a hand in making this line truly artistic as dyed edges blend into one another. Richly colored teals reminiscent of seaside waters can be seen alongside dusty pinks similar to those painting the clouds at sunset. Above all, Gilda Midani’s Resort 2019 collection brings to the forefront a pattern which has been around for ages and turns it on its head.

Polka dots obtained their name from polka dance, which was popular when the pattern grew in usage. In years since the creation of the pattern, polka dots have been used traditionally on a number of garments, such as flamenco dresses and performance attire. Due to their application in history however, polka dots are often seen as being inherently diminutive or automatically “feminine.”

However, the origins and connotations of polka dots do not share much with their current usage in Gilda Midani’s line. Expressive dyeing has become a signature for Gilda’s work, and her newest collection is a perfect example. Largely printed with organically shaped edges bordering on something more rough, Gilda’s polka dot patterns are provocative and filled with personality. Energetic playfulness radiates from each garment, while the textiles allow you to enjoy style in comfort.

Péro: Illustrations Come to Life

At the intersection of traditional Indian textiles and handmade artistry sits Aneeth Arora’s line, Péro. Since its launch in 2009, Péro has taken the world by storm, as they continue to produce feminine and whimsical designs with a distinctly Indian perspective.

Creating timeless and intricate handloomed pieces, each garment travels through India and is touched by more than half a dozen artisans who specialize in particular techniques. Through this process Péro’s collections remain grounded and tied to the community through more than just local inspiration.

As such, traditionally Indian fabrics and shapes are always present in her work. This allows them to produce collections in tandem with the moment and the community. The line’s reach doesn’t stop there, as the main intention surrounding Pero’s foundation remains connecting women all over the globe, through clothing that celebrates truly unique and delicate beauty.

As a testament to their outreach, Péro took to instagram, releasing a series of illustrations commissioned from several different artists for their FW’18 collection. View their instagram to see the full series featured here, created by @stewtea, in addition to the work by the other artists.

Showcasing an in depth understanding of uncommon textiles, watch as Aneeth’s designs come to life. From tartan plaid revisited in pink and coral, made in the hills of Himchal, Pradesh, to the carefully stitched embroidery, Pero is truly an inspiration.

Avant Toi: The Cutting Edge of Luxury Knitwear

Founded in 1994 by the Liapull production group, Avant Toi is the cutting edge of luxury knitwear. The finest Italian cashmere gains superior quality through artisan craftsmanship and the notoriously pure waters of Genoa, Italy. This refinement is juxtaposed by a grungy take on luxe.

Artistic director Mirko Ghignone has translated a love of avant-garde into truly innovative production techniques, unique to the line. Never afraid to break the rules, Mirko is continually pushing the boundaries of dyeing and fabric manipulation of cashmere and other luxury yarns, such as silk and linen. Pieces are smoked, torn, destroyed, blended, and spray-painted to become singular creations that are refined yet provoking. Each is a masterful work of art that is ultimately defined by the wearer.
