Suzusan

Arimatsu, Japan

The roots of the Suzusan label lie in the Japanese town of Arimatsu, where the Murase family has been refining textiles with the traditional shibori technique for over 100 years. Shibori is a traditional Japanese textile finishing technique that has been used in the country for over 400 years and involves refining fabrics through extremely intricate handwork.

Now in their fifth generation, the family regards shibori as a cultural heritage that must be upheld with endless passion and a commitment to perfection. To achieve this, Suzusan gives the technique a beautiful, contemporary relevance through the development of new and innovative creations.

The motto of Hiroyuki Murase, designer at Suzusan and the oldest son in the Murase family, is “don’t just keep the tradition—create it.”
