Designer Jaga Buyan draws influence from her native land of Mongolia when designing for her namesake line Jaga, which is hand-painted, printed and dyed in Los Angeles. The look, style, and feel of Jaga’s designs present an air of cool nonchalance, sophistication and pure femininity. Her style is delicate, subtle, and raw to the eye and touch. She uses indigenous culture and history as inspiration for her patterns and designs.
Born in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, Jaga grew up in a household that encouraged free thought and artistic values. Her parents were both geologists and interested in a nomadic lifestyle, so she grew up traveling far and wide. At the age of 8, Jaga started sewing and making her own pieces out of her mother’s leftover fabrics. She studied languages and cultural studies at the Mongolian National University. Driven by a sense of exploration after graduation, she packed her bags and moved to the United States.
Jaga opened her first retail store on Melrose Avenue and by 2009 produced her own collection, designed with the utmost precision and thoughtfulness. Her passion and endless will to create contribute to the timeless aesthetic of her designs. Her collections continually draw their inspiration from the strength of femininity and Jaga’s nomadic heritage, enriching life with beauty, sensuality and versatility.
