Isabel Benenato
Lucca, Tuscany
Isabel Benenato was born and raised in Naples, in a family of creative people — her mother a seamstress, and her paternal grandfather, a passionate artist who filled her family home with his paintings. Isabel comes from a long line of Neapolitan tailors and produces her pieces in Lucca, Tuscany.
Isabel Benenato’s philosophy is rooted in her Southern Italian upbringing, which remains a constant source of inspiration. After attending fashion school in London, she spent 10 years developing her line before launching her label in 2008 in Milan with a focus on simple and essential living. Isabel’s overarching goal is to keep the brand small, truthful and honest. Her designs are based on an imperfect perfection reflective of humanity itself.
At the core of Isabel’s work is a respect for people and the planet starting with her materials to her ethical production practices. She is committed to sustainability and makes every effort to minimize her environmental footprint. All of her collections are manufactured in Italy with the intention to support her local community. “What I like is having an idea and being able to try it right away, rather than crossing the globe to have something made,” she says. Isabela’s pieces are seasonless, trend-proof and made to last.
“My ethos leans toward purity, the essential, with clothing far from anything common. I attach great importance to the cut, with a little bit of avant-garde character and I love to create knitwear.” — Isabel Benenato
