A Tentative Atelier
london, england
A Tentative Atelier aims to explore artistic handicraft as well as innovative forms and silhouettes with a neo-vintage effect. The label does not only focus on fashion, but also is a platform to encourage and sustain the spirit and tradition of craftsmanship.
Each collection is inspired by literary themes which intersect with conceptual art, graphic design, music, cinematography and film. The studio is driven by the desire to develop new deconstruction techniques combined with traditional craftsmanship. Each piece is carefully considered from the materials, to its silhouette and construction, so that each collection carries a sense of purpose, understated elegance and poetry. A Tentative Atelier’s pieces are wearable, romantic, poetic and above all, quietly fascinating.
Using natural fabrics such as leather, silk, and linen, to maintain a raw quality, A Tentative Atelier believes artisanal imperfection is a new form of beauty. Focusing on the details of garment construction and redefining traditional methods, A Tentative Atelier integrates deconstructed finishes and couture-like elements with raw edges and exposed chain stitching to create a wearable art look.
A Tentative Atelier’s leather is sourced from Tuscany’s traditional tannery; printed silk and jacquard is created in collaboration with Como’s traditional mills; wool is sourced from Northern Italy and Japanese traditional mills; innovative mixed fabrics are created in Prato’s fabric mills and the rest is created with Japanese and Chinese historical fabric mills.
