Boboutic

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Boboutic’s mission rejects the quotidian notion of knitwear. Founded in 2000 by designer Michel Bergamo and architect/photographer Cristina Zamagni, the collections are conceptually driven by the complexities found in everyday experiences such as the visual impact of rock mosses and lichens, or the texture of paper.

Boboutic’s designers consider knitwear an ideal medium, since its versatility allows for unique surfaces and unexpected shapes. Their constant research for new materials and production methods positions Boboutic on the forefront of reconceptualizing knitwear as a platform for sartorial innovation.

Thinking of each coat as a sculpture, Michel and Cristina build their knits in the same way a ceramicist would add clay to a piece. Combining traditional knit and stitching techniques with intellectual textile research, Boboutic has achieved an unmatched collection of coats and sweaters with a marshmallow-like softness, owing to the high pile of their silk and cashmere threads.

Wommelsdorff

Berlin, Germany

In 2008, Anne Schramm decided to start a small niche knitwear label that would tie together generations-old knitting techniques with the best cashmere yarns available. Gaining early career experience by working for multiple high-end designer brands, Anne founded Wommelsdorff in 2008, named after her grandmother, Maria Wommelsdorff. Her pieces combine crochet and knit traditions that have been passed down through her family. Every sweater is made to last a lifetime.

Recalling vintage and classic silhouettes with a contemporary twist, Anne’s collection ranges from lush, oversized wraps to closely tailored cardigans and just about everything in between. Ultimately, Anne prides herself on creating uncomplicated yet exquisite designs.

Caravaggi sources fiber from Capra Hircus Laniger goats which live in a habitat where there are significant changes in temperature, resulting in the development of a finer, more prized undercoat known as cashmere down. Cashmere down is ten times warmer than wool, but with unparalleled lightness and softness. The loose knitting of these lofty and lush yarns makes them perfect for wearing in fall, winter or spring. One is simply never too hot or too cold.

Begg x Co

Scotland

Begg x Co designs and manufactures responsible cashmere knitwear from their mills in Ayr, known as ‘‘The Home of Cashmere,” in the Scottish Borders. The mist generated by the Firth of Clyde, and regular rainfall from the lush Ayrshire hills, creates soft water ideal for creating some of the softest cashmere on the market. Combining long established techniques with cutting-edge technology, each Begg x Co fiber is traceable from goat to garment.
