Taschen
Germany
At 18 years old, in 1980, Benedikt Taschen founded TASCHEN Books in Cologne, Germany. Originally a collectors’ comic book shop, the publisher explored myriad avenues —including mobile vending and manufacturing inflatable toys —before evolving into its identity of the new millennium.
Today, TASCHEN is known for publishing impeccably designed coffee-table-style art books with high quality photographs and renderings. TASCHEN has helped guide little-known art and artists into a broader public view. Most notably, TASCHEN publishes books that feature controversial art, design, fashion, architecture, travel, adventure and other groundbreaking and beautiful subject matters.
TASCHEN is a carbon neutral publisher. Each year they offset their annual carbon emissions with carbon credits at the Instituto Terra, a reforestation program in Minas Gerais, Brazil, founded by Lélia and Sebastião Salgado.
