Song for the Mute
Our most recent acquisition for Workshop is Song for the Mute–a one-of-a-kind avant-garde label based in Sydney, Australia. Developed by Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty, the brand’s emotional, narrative-driven collections have developed a strong international following over their fifteen years of design. The duo describes their line as a “long-form story” told in fabric, with themselves as cast members and seasons as chapters.

Riffing upon classic wardrobe elements is practically second nature to designer Chitose Abe… With just a few cuts of her scissors, she transforms classical suits into contemporary dresses, soft cardigans into structured, origami-esque tops. Chitose focuses on the architecture of fabric–intermixing feminine sheers, textural steam pleating, sporty cotton knits and rugged denim.
