This collection was inspired by the many and varied representations of nature and animals in medieval art. Through illuminated manuscripts to stained glass windows, from tetramorphs to tapestries (and in particular The Unicorn Tapestries of the 16th century), these designs contain references to a rich era of creature captivation. The medieval collections at The Met Museum in New York, Le Musée de Cluny in Paris, and The Bodleian Library in Oxford as well as essays by Michel Zink, Michel Pastoureau, Timothy Potts, Elizabeth Morrison and Emily Rundle greatly inspired Sabina Savage's collection.

This is a four-footed beast that has a single horn on its forehead; it is very strong and pierces anything it attacks…The unicorn is too strong to be caught by hunters, except by a trick: if a virgin girl is placed in front of a unicorn…all of its fierceness will cease…and thus quieted is easily caught.’ – Isodore of Seville, [7th century CE] (Etymologies, Book 12, 2:12-13)
