Jan-Jan Van Essche Rite Collection
Purity of Design
Jan-Jan Van Essche’s Rite collection was inspired by Pina Bausch’s ‘The Rite of Spring’, a performance described as a “ferocious roar of a piece.” The same Igor Stravinsky piece that inspired a riot at its Paris premiere in May 1913, inspired a collection by Jan-Jan that is ultimately about human connection and the natural movement of the body as the true foundation for beauty.
Pace of Hand
The handwoven series in Jan-Jan Van Essche’s Autumn-Winter 2023 collection are, as always, fully handcrafted in the designer’s studio by artisan Lamine Diouf. These unique pieces compliment the collection by narrating the story of the slow pace of the hand.
