Janaki Larsen
Vancouver, Canada
Daughter of established potter/painter, Patricia Larsen, and painter/stonemason, Ron Crawford, Janaki was raised amongst a community of artists on the prairies of Alberta and on the coastline of British Columbia’s Salt Spring Island. Janaki’s work is intentionally “imperfect” in form, echoing the shapes and ethos of the natural world. Using gentle lines as opposed to heavy detail, Janaki’s pieces retain a sense of quietness to them. Known by many as the ceramist for Copenhagen’s beloved Noma, each Janki Larsen piece is hand-thrown and hand-glazed — no two pieces look or are formed exactly alike.
