Gilda Midani

Brazil

Brazilian designer Gilda Midani creates clothing that is as artful as it is comfortable. Gilda’s aesthetic is inspired by combining the worlds of ancient cultures with contemporary art and rendering them with a European sophistication. She creates superbly wearable pieces that are beautifully hand-dyed and made with the highest quality cotton, silk and linen. With a distinctly Brazilian flare, she brings an immense amount of playfulness and energy to these timeless and classic fabrics.

Gilda began her artistic career as a photographer in Brazil, moving into fashion as an editorial producer in NYC and then designing costumes for the National Opera of Weimar in Germany and the National Opera of Graz in Austria. She presented her first eponymous collection in 2004.

From the beeswax batik of Indonesia to Japanese shibori, Gilda collaborates with many diverse artisans to infuse her clothing with complex and rich colors. Gilda demonstrates astonishing creativity in her signature dyeing techniques, exploring the use of unconventional materials like coal, copper and gypsum as well as handwork methods including stamping and the use of foils in order to get the desired bold look of her mind’s eye.

Gilda infuses ease with elegance and artistry by designing flowing, organic silhouettes with radiant color combinations, balancing a beautiful earthiness with wild splashes of color. Live, work and above all play in the unique and timeless creations by Gilda. For the woman in constant motion, go about all your daily tasks in natural beauty. Gilda Midani’s clothing is both energetic and alluring and her pieces are an absolute joy to wear, imbuing every moment with an artistic zen.
