Shobhan Porter Vintage Mud Cloth Pillow
Mud Cloth, also known as Bogolanfini, was traditionally woven by the men and pieced together.
The cloth was first dyed in baths of the leaves and branches of trees.
Then sun-dried while the patterns were painted with special mud collected from ponds the precious season and left to ferment.
As the Cloth dried, the dark mud turned gray and then was washed.
The process of dying and painting of the mud was then repeated numerous times.
To finish the mud cloth, the natural color is created by painting with a bleach and then left to dry for a week.
