Using the highly specialized Bandhani technique, from the Sanskrit word Bandh meaning to tie, this piece was woven by hand by expert weavers in Gujarat and Kashmir. Prior to tying, the cloth is first washed to remove any impurities and then hand stenciled. Three tools are used by an artisan to tie a Bandhani pattern: Dehri, strong cotton thread to resist the area; Bhungali, a glass pipe which is used to hold and tie thread and Naklo, a thimble used to pluck a tiny area to tie.

Launched in 2009 as a clothing brand by Chinar Farooqui, Injiri believes in the beauty of hand-weaving processes. Injiri centers their brand around story-telling, and the pieces they produce are reflective of the journey of many hands at work. Injiri makes clothing for women and textiles for the home through sustainable use of materials.
