Shahsavan rugs are geometric-patterned textiles constructed by the Shahsavan tribe, a large nomadic group that lived in Northeastern Persia. This mountainous area was home to a variety of smaller tribes, but were all loosely united in the 17th century. The diverse weaving traditions brought from Turkish, Persian, and Armenian peoples coalesced into impressive textile patterns.
