Antique and Vintage Afghan Nomadic Wool Saddle Bag Pillow in Brown

The complexity of the Baloch textiles extend beyond their intricate appearance. The entire process takes many months, beginning with sheering the wool from sheep raised by the tribe, spinning it into yarn, harvesting plants for natural dyes, dying the fiber and finally painstakingly making the actual weaving. Deep, dark saturated colors are most commonly used with occasional light natural colored fiber accents. The finished weavings became carpets, grain and storage bags, saddle bags and cushions.

Vintage and antique textiles have experienced a full life before making their way to our stores. A vintage item of exceptional quality should not be viewed as brand new, as it shows signs of a lifetime, or several, being used and appreciated by its original makers. Evidence of this well-lived life may be visible in slightly distressed fabric, loose threads, small tears, non-standard sizes and other unique imperfections.
